rant warning!! Houston Equal Rights Ordinance

Today I complain about the attempts to repeal the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO). Some background, from Click2Houston.com:

City council members passed the ordinance in May 2014. Opponents didn't agree with the protections it offered to gay and transgender residents. Afterward, a group of opponents turned into the city a petition that would force a repeal referendum of the ordinance.
In April, a judge reached a decision in the HERO trial, siding with the city that opponents did not have enough valid signatures to repeal the ordinance.
So that should have been the end of it, right? But opponents took their complaints to the Supreme Court of Texas, which basically said, "Yeah, you completely didn't meet the criteria required by state law to get this on the ballot, but we'll rule for you anyway because we're good old boys who like our cushy jobs and don't want you to get your churches to vote us out of office the next time we're up for re-election."
I guess that's how the court system works in Texas, even in 2015.
